The Story
Humanity is dead. Anthropomorphic intelligent animals now roam the Earth. Upon the remnants of human civilization, they have erected their own. Hundreds of years have passed, and the animals have completely forgotten their origins. Their city-states are mired in internal conflicts. In the northern forests and steppes, wild tribes struggle to survive, fighting against an unknown evil left by humans. Acid rains destroy the soil. And from the north, the ominous Red Desert draws closer, inhabited by monstrous creatures. The evil committed by humans is not fully atoned for. The Earth remembers everything.
The story follows Max, a young black cat who scavenges the Ruins of the Ancients in the oppressive city-state of Jaako. His only friend, Dashi—a rebellious red cat—dreams of joining a notorious gang, urging Max to follow. However, Max seeks a different path. Their journey leads to an encounter with wild lynxes, forcing Max to confront the unsettling truth of his hybrid nature—born of a cat and a lynx.
As Max grapples with his newfound abilities and the alienation from those around him, including Dashi, tragedy strikes when he returns home to find his mother dead. In a desperate attempt to escape his pain, Max joins the gang, plunging into Jaako’s underworld where his hybrid nature makes him a pawn in a violent power struggle.
Meanwhile, Altan, a mysterious dog teacher from a distant city, arrives in Jaako. Haunted by the loss of his son and tormented by a voice in his head, Altan’s psychological struggles mirror Max’s search for identity. Their paths converge, forming an unlikely friendship as they seek redemption in a world designed to destroy them.
